My Ranking: 1. Sons of Northern Darkness 2. At the Heart of Winter 3. Damned in Black 4. Pure Holocaust 5. Northern Chaos Gods 6. Battles in the North 7. Diabolic Fullmoon Mysticism 8. Blizzard Beasts Haven't listened much to All Shall Fall or War Against All The 'Thrash' era of Immortal is definitely my favourite of theirs, though Pure Holocaust is also a very unique cool sound I enjoy
Hmm not familiar with Immortal's thrash era.
@@brainsmasher666 idk what else would you call the ATHOD to Damned in Black era? I always thought of it as more a 'thrashy' style of black metal...
Great video on Immortal! They were the first “true” black metal band I ever got into (don’t really like that terminology, but I feel like people will scream at me in the comments if I ever mention Deafheaven as being a black metal band, considering they were my *actual* first band with any kind of tenuous connection to black metal that I got into, but I digress). I am a lot younger than you so I got into them with the 2002 album Sons of Northern Darkness. I still really love that record. My favourite is At the Heart of Winter and I also really love Pure Holocaust. I could never really get into Blizzard Beasts; like, it just felt like a sequel to Pure Holocaust to me that was not as good. I will admit I need to listen to the debut and All shall Fall more often. Northern chaos gods surprise the hell out of me; I didn’t think I would like it as much as I did! And the new one that bears the Immortal name… Yeah, it’s not good at all. Very boring!
Same list as mine. Top.
@@coldvoid cool coincidence

I love the Forsth albums (of course!) and whilst in terms of 90s BM these could basically only qualify as bereft C tier cheese; I think the true way to make sense out of why they are so charming and enjoyable is to see them as a form of early Dungeon Synth with some Metal accompaniments. Rather than borrowing from Dimmu Borgir or Cradle of Filth the who affair from the 16-bit low budget RPGs organs narrating the whole album, to the heraldic artwork, to the band photos in full corpse paint armoured regalia takes from D&D, Fantasy games and artworking, LARPing, and Renaissance Faires. While the guitars and bass are mostly of no consequence and the vocals are curious I actually like the drumwork adds a sense of color to the mostly stoic synthwork even if, as you say, the drummer would probably like to be playing something more interesting. Overall this band was a good early example of very cheesy and lowbudget yet charming fantasy/RPG inspired BM and Dungeon Synth and the keyboards really carry the album's interest as much as any early Mortiis stuff.
Of all The gigs, this IS one i'd had loved to Be There ..
We need more Warlord related brainsmasher content.
6:02, my favourite part..
I'm aware of how influential Judas Priest is, but I got just 3 albums by them cause I can't listen to those albums without getting distracted/bored, I can't help it, and I find hard to believe this might offend anybody

Tom G. must have some redeeming features if Giger took a shine to him.

Theres a Dawn~Cranium overlap?!
should of known ye be on that Lugubrum
Talking about Black Metal with saxophone, check out White Ward, awesome band from Ukraine.
I just found warning and am obsessed with them
What's the name of your BM project? I'd love to check it out if you guys have anything recorded. \m/
Does anyone organize their collection chronologically instead of alphabetically?
I know this is an older video, but the subject matter is still perfectly relevant. My comparison would be Sadus and Possessed losing lots of fans, due to speaking sexually with minors, and abusing disabled women. It’s hard to enjoy a Sadus song as much as I once did, knowing the founding member is a dirtbag. If I owned any of their albums would I suddenly sell? No, but I’m not gonna support either band moving forward.
Great list, classics and newer era shit that rules. Love to see the Florida pulls! We have a great scene
Thanks Austin!
Masterful air of psychological damage is achieved (vocals) and all components integrated into groove-laden, feral material.
Great feedback! Thanks so much
@brainsmasher666 yeah man yr very welcome; heard Satan's Almighty Penis on BBR and kinda love it for the aesthetic, intensity and song construction; also the attention to detail, I know a labor of love when I hear it.
Great band , amazing music !! where is CD cover Castle location please ,thx
Glad to have seen Demoncy 3 times.
You look like you smell like an Applebees bathroom
Dude, I need to ask you something. A while back, you made a video about a certain black metal musician and in it you mentioned a guy named Marco (or possibly Mark or Markus) who had a black metal project. I can't find that video but I remember looking up his album and really liking it, but now I can't remember the artist or album name. Could you please tell me? Thanks in advance.
I was thinking man I wanna see brainsmasher and saw this new video well done always enjoy your discussion and whole style man reminds me of my old mentor who coached me on metal back in 2005
Right there with you on not being in the best moods since the election. Unfortunately for me when I show things that people are not too familiar with the engagement falls off. So I've been mixing in both those videos and videos of more common music (if you want to call it that) because otherwise I'll lose interest and stop making videos due to 0 engagement.
Woah, what a crazy show...
Lye By Miatake were cool. I still have that album. Didn't realize Dodheimsgard had a new record out. I will listen to that post haste. Take care, Ben!
Been having an eye on the release of that Doedsmaghird, will have to give it a listen soon. Still need to pick up Black Medium Current.
that Doedsmaghird is awesome! i will definitely check out Atrox and Chastain's discography. hell, i'll probably just go through all of these. also, i love these videos in general, and i love being able to share obscure shit with you! and i'm always stoked when you send me stuff 😊 smasher eternal ⚔️
Stoked to check out that Infest and Desecrate demo, sounds super sick Also RE: Chastain, maybe it’s because I heard Mystery of Illusion first so it left a bigger impact on me, but it’s still my favorite Chastain record despite how cool Rulers is.
The bass solos!!!! HHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAJAHAHAHAHAJAHAHAHAJAJAHAJAHAHAJAHAJAJA
@VacuousDepths thank you dude. I was really proud of that and nobody else said anything.
@ Died. Hahahaha
I rebought the Ancient Rites album not long ago as well. I remember it being a fairly popular album in the underground over here back in the day which maybe why Soulseller felt it would worth reissuing. Don’t think it’s dated well. I remember liking it more at the time.
@seankearney2252 yeah that makes sense.
A little fun fact about Doedsmaghird: Vicotnik wrote and recorded the track "Then, To Darkness Return" for a charity compilation tape that was released to help Kniven bar in Oslo back in 2020. He liked the track so much he sent it to Peaceville who sent him a contract for a potential solo project. 4 years later, it was released as one of the tracks on that album. Tape is called Knives Out and was released on Screaming Skull Records
@@Deraneo7662 woah that is interesting!
Speaking of Morbid Angel, you hear Abhorration ‘Demonolotry’? They sound like early MA- demos and Alters era. From Norway. I love that Mercyless as well.
@MrLando0 just ordered it yesterday but I haven't heard it. No one here in the state's has had copies until this week. Invictus needs better US distribution
Another solid video with excellent recommendations 🎉
@@deadin1990 thanks for watching!
I have learned about many bands and albums through you and your channel. I get what your say though.
Man, I don't know what you're talking about with this "stuff no one is interested in" -- this is exactly the kinda stuff that's always kept me gravitating to your channel. Was it "Atrox"? Gotta check that out. You're always finding those gems no one else seems to talk about. Really enjoyed the album playing in the background as well. I hear ya though... haven't been in the mood for sh*t lately. Put on a playlist in the car recently, and good ol' Necromantia had me entranced for a few moments. My appreciation for Greek black metal only grows as time goes by. (My condolences for the 11 + minute bass solo on the "Necromantical Invocation" album... sounds like typical weirdos from the scene 😂) Heart breaking to hear of Jeff and his wife's home and pets... thanks for posting the GoFundMe. Thank goodness for the dog and two cats that survived. (Not materialistic at all the mourn the loss of items of significance either.) Great stuff as always.👍
I like some of them.......LOL
@@infernusrex796 that Lye by Mistake is insane
I saw Leather perform recently in october at Keep it True. Seen her befor in 2017 but man, this time i had a hard time holding back tears. She ruled that stage and her voice is at an alltime high.
@@Goatscythe woah that's amazing to hear! I would definitely jump at the chance to see them perform.
considering your love for SC3 I'm surprised it took you this long to get to Estradasphere as they rule. Their earlier albums rule too and are worth tracking down
@@mendicantmedia well I had been listening to them for years and just picked the disc up in a cheap bin. I listen to a ton of genres but pretty much only collect metal.

Man I love that Ancient RItes. I wouldn't call it death metal I guess it fits in with Dark Endless. Hopefully you dig it one day. The first four Chastain are all great, though I agree with you on the first one. The band get better on their third and fourth album. Hahahah the Dave VIncent video. I hope that Geoff can get the manufacturer of that cat warmer mat to pay up.
God damn that background music rules !! Great collection update I’ve been on My dying bride , paradise lost, Runemagick kick lately ever since the colder days have arrived !
@NightsInEden999 yeah they were great (Sororicide). I was reminded of them yesterday when listening to some Opeth demos that sounded quite a bit like Sororicide.
I am just recognizing what a classic Gothic was!
@@patrickbertlein4626 totally!
@@NightsInEden ahhh man Aaron's vocals are sick so woe drenched than those deep growls especially on as the flower withers
Dodsmaghird is way to weird for my taste. No saxophone in Metal!!!!!! Have not listened to Ancient Rites in years, might undust my cd's and give them a spin. The first 4 Chastain are pretty good overall, but the debut is not as good as the second. The new Mercyless is great. Solid band.
Been watching a long time but I never comment. Need to change that. Have found lots of great releases from you. Always look forward to your videos. Thank you!
